I apparently only had five minutes, not thirty, but I wanted to kinda boggle at how good those subtitles are.

The subtitles are pretty good.

You'll want to find the 30 minutes at some point. She has some really great insights. Plus, y'know, deaf musician, kinda cool.

I'll try - I trust your judgment.

You know what this made me think of? My own inadequacies when it came to music. I played a lot of instruments but I never really excelled at any of them, not even the piano and I played that for 10 years. And I think I figured it out after watching this video.

For one thing, I'm detail-oriented. I often don't see the bigger picture and it's clear to me that for Evelyn as well as most true musicians, they hear the music and not the notes on the page. I always saw music as notes on the page as rendered by my fingers. She demonstrated that most clearly near the beginning of her video of the difference between a musician and a virtuoso.

You know, I wonder what would happen if I were to take up piano again as an adult knowing what I know now. My last piano teacher was the first person to emphasize feeling the music over technical skill, something which she said that I lacked profoundly. Hmm...gives me loads to think about.

Yeah. It made it more obvious to me why I like going to the theater to watch live shows. The CDs are fine but there's a lot missing when all that's there is the sound from the speakers.

That was fabulous. Thank you for sharing it.

Also, I like being tagged. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And no, that joke is never getting old. :p
